Why Not Manston ?

I have just watched the BBC Lunch time news and they featured a new focus group called Why Not Manston. I have just done a google search and cant find hem yet but I will try harder and come back to you with news as I find it. I am a little bit busy at the moment with so much Olympic viewing to be done so it may not be as fast as it could be done. Must go as the cycling is on Back to the Olympics.

  1. Don I think the answer to the question is because it is the hub of a spoke not a wheel of land and fish don’t make good customers for airlines.

This is confirmed at the moment as the airport has new facilities for importing equestrian horses and a large amount of Olympic flight slots, but only actually had three Olympic flights last month.

  2. Maybe the focus group does not realy exist and is just a PR stunt by Manston to help with the sale. The person on Radio Kent this morning seems a bit clueless reguarding night flights and why BMI chopped the Edinburgh route. he seemed tothink that the route was not promoted enough but I cant image that BMI did not try its best to market the route.

  3. PEETER - HERNE BAY. why not use Manston, it has the longest runway - as was used by RAF. For those in this area it woulld be a godsend, a local airport flying to hopefully longhaul destinations, shorthaul is also good.

  5. I flew to Spain several times from Manston, cut 2 hours of my journy time each way, it was great, I would suggest though that there were too many routes, either Alicante or Murcia not both, only half an hours drive between them. I would definately use it again, and have more short breaks abroad.

  6. Don, they now have a faceless web site, a good indication that they are being funded by somebody/organisation connected to the airport (see also below).
Its all very well for a few local people to say how convienient the airport is for them but there are not enough local people to substain an airport and people outside of the area already have the main and other regional airports to choose from. Even those is west Kent have other closer alternatives and any High Speed rail extentions will be useless for them.
