Thanet councillors awash with Phobia

I have just come from Michaels blog after trying to read the 40 odd comments about Homophobic comments by TDC councillors. The Political blogs are awash with the stuff, it reminds me off a school playground, with sniggers and tittle tattle and comments from behind the back of a badly placed hand. The thing that these councilors is they are supposed to be  grown up's representing Thanet residents and in  charge of the spending of millions of pounds. I must say on current behaviour I wouldn't trust any of them with my grandsons pocket money let alone TDC's budget. Shame on them all.

  1. The only thing about this pathetic shower is that ... we are surprised!
And they will doubtless wonder why the turnout at election time is so low. But, of course, being politicians they will never accept blame.
If we could impeach councillors they way US presidents can be dismissed, they'd all be out of their gravy train allowances and jobs.
    And I DO mean ALL

  3. Don,I think you are being a bit unfair tarring everyone with the same brush, I have read through the comments and it is the same group of people who will just not let go.

As for Colin's remarks, being a Councillor myself do I come under your catergory of "pathetic shower" and if I do please explain your reasons, I love to know.

  5. Not easy promoting Thanet when so many of our councillors are filling the headlines when they should be getting on with what they were elected for - making Thanet a better and more prosperous place for everybody who works or lives there. I accept they are not all to blame however they must stand or fall as a group.

  6. I should think anon of 2012 has it about right. It is shaming when councillors antics become the story, not the work they are - or perhaps sometimes should - be doing for the island and their residents.

How do we get out of this mire> For now the only sensible thing to do is the job elected for, quietly and consistently. Today I spoke to one family which needed a school appeal; another which needed help with housing benefit; and a third who finally got permission to sell their property having been supported through a two year battle.

Not many headlines there - but on balance could well be the best place to be.

  7. One way out of this mire is to sack them thus making it crystal clear that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.

  8. yogi bear, Councillors cannot be sacked other than by losing their seat at an election. However, they can be disciplined by their Party, if they have one, which I assume is what you meant.
